Clinical Director and Psychologist
Dr Claire Joseph
Dr Claire Joseph is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Supervisor with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She graduated from Deakin University with a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical), Honours in Applied Science (Psychology) and Bachelor in Applied Science (Psychology).
Dr Claire Joseph has worked with clients from a range of cultural backgrounds and ages in not-for-profit organisations, community mental health settings as well as within the private sector. She works across the lifespan, though has a particular interest in working with children, adolescents, young adults and parents.
Dr Claire Joseph has experience in the assessment and treatment of a range of presentations. Her areas of interest include Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Adjustment Disorders, Autism, Substance Use Disorders, Somatic Symptom Disorders, Chronic Pain and emotional dysregulation (i.e. anger issues). Claire has extensive experience in providing parent training for mild to severe emotional and behavioural dysregulation in children. Being a mother of four and having a passion for children, Claire is passionate about equipping parents with the skills and strategies to confidently emotionally connect with their children whilst also managing challenging behaviours.
Dr Claire Joseph prides herself in being evidence-based and goal oriented whilst still being collaborative, personable, friendly, and authentic. She loves her job and works to always create fun and engaging environments to assist clients to address their areas of difficulties whilst still enjoying themselves. She is passionate about helping others to help themselves and hopes to help you find that inner strength to take on the waves of your life.
Psychologist
Tara Down
Tara Down is a registered Psychologist with AHPRA. She graduated from the University of Victoria with a Masters of Professional Psychology), Monash University with a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology ( Advanced) and the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Psychology.
Tara has experience working with clients across diverse cultural backgrounds and age groups, with a particular focus on assessments and supporting individuals under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Tara has experience in the assessment and treatment of a number of presentations. Tara's interests include Anxiety, Depression, Neurodiversity (including ADHD and Autism), as well as providing support for LGBTIQA+ clients. She provides neurodiversity, disability and LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy and assessments. Tara has extensive experience in conducting the following assessments across the lifespan; psychology functional capacity assessments, cognitive assessments, ADHD assessments, and Autism assessments. She is also currently upskilling in WPATH assessments for individuals seeking Gender Affirming Medical and/or Surgical Treatment (GAMST).
Guided by evidence-based practice, Tara takes pride in creating a therapeutic environment characterised by collaboration, trust and authenticity. With a nuanced understanding of the importance of these elements in the therapeutic process, Tara ensures that every interaction cultivates a sense of safety and understanding.Tara has a relaxed, client focused approach wherein she empowers her clients to explore their challenges and strengths with confidence in order to foster meaningful growth and resilience.
Practice manager
Trudie Ferreira
Trudie has 41 years of experience in healthcare as a radiographer within the public and private sector, across two continents. She was the chief medical imaging technologist in a busy private radiology clinic whilst also being the area chief medical technologist supporting and managing staff across four busy private radiology clinics.
After many years in radiography, she has decided to change things up and move into the field of psychology due to her passion for helping people. Trudie is empathetic and it is her mission, as the initial point of contact and practice manager at Bass Coast Psychology and Consulting, to make clients’ experiences as easy and enjoyable as possible. Her motto is “live justly, show constant love and walk humbly”.
